Indie authors now have a new online forum where they can meet other authors and find information about how to self publish an eBook, formatting books for Kindle Self Publishing, book printing services, eBook covers, and everything else that has to do with self published books.

Once upon a time, self publishing was considered taboo but when Amazon introduced their Kindle self publishing program, the market exploded with self published books. Other booksellers, like Barnes & Noble, followed suit with their own programs for self publishing and the playing field was leveled for independent publishers. Self publishing not only benefits authors, but readers as well.

With so many books being self published, readers can now choose for themselves what they want to read rather than relying on traditional publishing houses to pick and choose for them. The options are endless and readers are devouring book after book and demanding more. And Indie authors are happy to oblige.

Simply writing a book and self publishing it doesn’t mean an author will be successful. It takes work to make a book successful and this is where the Indie Author Forum comes in. Set up as an online community, authors will not only find information they need about publishing their own books, but will also have the opportunity to interact with other authors. Sharing self publishing success stories, encouraging aspiring authors, offering tips and helpful information – this is what the community is all about!

Self publishing is here to stay and as more and more indie authors come onto the scene, sharing information and helping others to succeed helps to strengthen the industry. There can never be “too many books” and with so many topics to write about – in fiction as well as non-fiction – there’s no chance that the market will ever be oversaturated.

Whether you’re an old hand at self publishing or new to the industry, be sure to check out the Indie Author Forum and become a part of the community.

Let’s face it: there are only a few people left in the world who don’t have any stress in their life. This is a factor that is affecting us both mentally and physically, and it looks like there might be a lot more to it than meets the eye.

The link between emotional distress and breast cancer

There are a lot of women who have gone through some hard times and they have found themselves dealing with breast cancer. It may seem easy to link all the negative aspects of life to breast cancer, but the researchers still didn’t manage to find an explanation to why stress is related to cancer.

We also have to add that not all the people who have to deal with stress have to face cancer as well. It is possible that they manage to get rid of stress or they simply have a stronger organism that is able to fight back.

Immune system

There was a study conducted in 2008 that has been working with women under the age of 45. As a result the study found that those women who have two or more distressing events in their life were more prone to depression and they were also more likely to be affected by breast cancer.

Scientists say that stress affects the endocrine, nervous and immune system. In case you constantly have to deal with a lot of stress, this will weaken your immune system and so it will be easier for cancer to attack you. According to the study that has been conducted, the women who were more optimistic seemed to have an armor against breast cancer.

Stress is not all

In case we are thinking about the cause and effect relation between stress and cancer, the connection is still quite uncertain. Although there have been numerous studies conducted, there are so many different acting factors that it is very difficult to get a straightforward answer.

As an example, the people who are dealing with a lot of stress could be eating, smoking or drinking more, and so it is just natural that their chances of contacting cancer are higher. If you are stressed you may develop habits that are harmful for your health.

Finding the balance

We have to admit that stress is a normal part of our lives, and every person reacts to it differently based on the backgrounds, personalities and situations. In some cases stress could become a great motivational factor, while in other cases it could lead to health problems, like headaches, heart disease, diabetes, dental problems, obesity and ulcers.

Bottom line, the scientists are still not sure whether stress really causes cancer, but this result may not make you feel better. No matter what the truth might be, it is better to lower your stress level in order to improve your overall health and to make it possible for yourself to enjoy life as much as you can. Just try to keep on smiling and be optimistic.

Aside from vegetables, herbs are easy to grow in containers too. Many people like to keep herb gardens so they have fresh herbs on hand for cooking or even for making different tea.s Considering how much food costs these days, it really does make sense to grow as much as you can at home. Plus, when you grow your own fruits, vegetables, and herbs, you have complete control over whether or not you use pesticides.

If you have enough space for a few containers, then you really should give container vegetable gardening a try. You’ll be amazed at how easy it is and, you’ll love being able to step outside and pick your own vegetables any time you want!

In the UK, one in four of us will suffer from insomnia at some point. Lack of sleep can have debilitating consequences such as extreme tiredness and an inability to concentrate, with these symptoms often leading to anxiety and depression. Mothers, especially new mothers, are also more likely to encounter problems with sleep due to a changing lifestyle. Although sufferers often think that only sleeping pills can help, there are non-medical ways to overcome the problem. Here are six simple steps to better sleep.

Step 1

Establish a bedtime routine. Avoid drinking tea or coffee or eating heavy meals later on in the evening and try some light exercise like yoga or Pilates a few hours before bed. Read a book, watch some TV or listen to mellow music before you go to bed. Have a warm bath and maybe treat yourself to a face mask or other treatment to encourage a feeling of calm and serenity. A milky drink for supper is also a good idea. Try to make this a nightly routine.

Step 2

Remember that beds are for sleeping in. Don’t watch TV, read or do work in bed. You should always keep your bed just for sleeping so that your body knows that it is time to sleep when you get into bed. When shopping for a new bed, try it beforehand and make sure that the one you choose is ideal for you and your partner’s build and weight, as well as your comfort level. If one or both of you have health issues, then you may want to consider buying ones that have specialist features, such as adjustable beds.

Step 3

Don’t go to bed too early to try to catch up on your sleep. If you suffer from insomnia there is a good chance that this will not help. Instead, go to bed as late as you can and get up at the usual time in the morning. You will feel tired the next day, but avoid napping and continue this routine until you are sleeping through the night. Once you are sleeping through, bring your bedtime ten minutes forward each night until you are back to your normal sleep pattern.

Step 4

Remember the twenty-minute rule: if you have been awake for more than twenty minutes, then get up. Go and sit on the sofa and have a read. If you have woken up remembering something important, then write it down with any possible solutions for the following day. Try not to eat or drink while up and once you feel tired go back to bed. If you still do not settle, then get up again after twenty minutes. Eventually, this routine should help you to sleep for longer.

Step 5

Try not to oversleep in the morning. If you do get to bed late, or have a poor sleep, then get up at your regular time the following morning.

Step 6

Keep control of your body clock. Light controls the body clock, so when you wake up put the light on immediately and open the curtains if natural light is available. Walk around for a few minutes or do some gentle stretches as a start to the day. When you go to bed, make sure that the bedroom is completely dark. Maintaining a regular night-time routine is also important in helping you to keep control of your body clock.

There are plenty of Nissan dealerships available in the California area. I had recently moved from Oregon to California (I know, a big change!) and did not have the slightest clue as to what dealerships were good and which ones were not. I had to get a new car, because I had a used Corona that just could not stand to run anymore apparently. It was to the point where I was going out on an errand and I was scared if I was going to make it back to my house without my car completely breaking down, or like it sounded, about to blow up. So I decided to check out two dealerships in particular, ontario nissan at http://www.nissanofsanbernardino.com and fontana nissan at http://www.nissanofsanbernardino.com.

Both were very professional upon first glance and I felt completely comfortable strolling inside even though I was not a California native. I know that it would not have mattered much where I was from, considering all they were really interested in was my money. But that is besides the point, and I would have to say that I spent my money very wisely at the Fontana dealership. Although Ontario Nissan did offer a pretty expansive inventory, I noticed that some of their cars seemed to be over-priced for what they really were. At Fontana, I felt like everything was affordable, and I really loved the fact that they had so many different types of specials to offer us customers. I bought a brand new Nissan Altima from the dealership in Fontana and have never regretted it.

My car still looks just as gorgeous as the first day that I purchased it. The Nissan Altima runs absolutely wonderful and, in my opinion, is one of the best looking cars available on the market today. I still visit Fontana dealership now and again depending on what specials they are offering and what is on sale.

No foods directly cause acne, but acne and diet go hand-in-hand. While acne is usually caused due to blood sugar problems, insulin resistance, chronic inflammation, and oxidative stress, many foods disturb these conditions that result in acne. Food alone is not responsible for acne; lack of sleep, breathing polluted air, and stress also cause acne problems. Simply cutting out certain foods from your diet will not eliminate acne, however, there are some foods that cause acne indirectly because they disturb certain levels in the body. The following are foods that disturb these levels and can cause acne:

Eating too much fat:

Too much fat intake is a big cause of acne as it results in blood sugar problems. Imbalanced blood sugar levels result in too high or too low levels that cause hormonal problems. These hormonal problems result in increased sebum production and blocked pores that result in acne.

Dairy products:

Dairy products are a big cause of acne because of their high fats; cheese and ice cream are also the big causes of acne. These dairy products result in excess fats that cause acne.

The second reason is that milk come from pregnant cows that contain hormones. The enzymes present in the skin glands change these hormones into enzymes that transform them into dihydrotestosterone hormone. DHT increases sebum production that results in acne.

If digestion is not complete, it also results in many problems. Immune system gets infected that also affects white blood cells. This results in more inflammation and oxidative stress as a result causes acne.

Refined carbohydrates:

Grain and refined sugar is also a big cause of acne. Refined sugar contains no nutrients. To digest these sugars and grains, the body needs vitamins, enzymes, and minerals and it has to take them from its reserves. With time, such activity results in deficiencies of nutrients that result in acne.

Grains:

Humans cannot digest grains just like they digest milk completely that result in allergic problems, more inflammation and oxidative stress, all these things result in acne.

Caffeine for pimples:

Caffeine is also one of the main causes of acne. Coffee, tea (black and green), chocolate, sodas, energy drinks, and some pain killers are some of the forms of caffeine that must be avoided. Caffeine stimulates the adrenalin glands to liberate stress hormones, which enhances your stress levels. Too much stress results in acne.

Caffeine also affects the sleep quality. Proper sleep is necessary to stay healthy and lack of sleep causes health decline and acne problems.

Processed foods:

Any food that comes from factory is bad for your skin. They are usually highly refined that makes them unable to digest that result in allergic reaction, inflammation, and eventually acne.

Conclusion:

Acne is a problem of many people and they take lot of effort to reduce or remove acne. To cope with this problem, one should know the reasons of acne. There are some foods that cause acne indirectly because eating them results in disturbed sugar levels, inflammation, and oxidation stress that are causes of acne. Therefore, since acne and diet go hand-in-hand, such foods as stated above should be avoided.

When searching for that age-old way of reinventing ourselves through hairstyles, we often look for inspiration from other women around us – either through a premeditated decision to emulate that gorgeous new supermodel or celebrity of the moment – or go into the salon, choose the first style we see from the latest hair magazines and silently hope for the best. But stop for a second, your choice of hairstyle is more important than you think. It can have a surprisingly dramatic effect on how your face appears; in equal measure, the shape of your face can make or break a new hairdo. For example, if you have a round face, it can be particularly tricky to pick out the perfect new hairstyle. But don’t despair, having a rounder face certainly shouldn’t hold you back from daring to go for a style you’ve set your heart on. Many ‘riskier’ hairstyles can look fantastic if they are created in the right hands and with the right attitude. However, if you are unsure of what style to choose, there are a few guidelines recommended by hairdressers far and wide, on haircuts for round-face shapes that might help you to decide on your new look.

The Three L’s

If you do have a rounder face, one really important thing to remember is the three L’s: keep it long, keep it layered and keep it loose. Long hair instantly makes even the roundest of faces appear dramatically thinner, which is a sure benefit to complement your post-Christmas diet! Having long layers cut into your hair also gives the appearance of more defined cheekbones, creating a more flattering look. However, tread with caution, as layers that are cut shorter than your cheekbones can be harsh and unflattering. Add texture and interest by creating loose waves in the hair (think laid-back Californian style) Do this either by blow drying it or by using curling irons but remember to keep the waves as loose as possible, as tight curls often make round faces appear even rounder. If you are unsure of or hesitant in how to do this, ask your hairdresser to do this after cutting it. You will be able to learn firsthand how this is done by choosing a salon with salon backwash units.

If going long just isn’t your style…

If the longer style isn’t for you, shorter styles can still be ultra flattering; think Rose Byrne at this year’s SAG Awards for an example of gorgeously chic short styles. The rules are again pretty similar to longer styles; by styling the hair in loose curls or wearing long layers, your face will instantly appear longer and thinner. On the other hand, shorter styles cut longer at the front than at the back – reminiscent of the famous Victoria Beckham ‘pob’ – can be flattering as this creates the illusion of length. Shorter pixie cuts can be surprisingly effective in creating a flattering style for round faces. You could take as your inspiration, recent ‘hair hero’ Oscar-nominated actress Michelle Williams. By keeping the front section longer than the back, you will create the illusion of length and can produce a cute, highly fashionable and oh-so-no frame for your gorgeously rounded face.

Daring to be on the fringe

It is a common misconception that fringes (or ‘bangs’) are unflattering on round faces. While a grown-out style does create an illusion of length in the face, this doesn’t necessarily mean a fringe will be unflattering. It’s all about choosing the right style of fringe. A long, straight fringe might be more flattering than having no fringe at all. Alternatively, a side-swept fringe worn at a slight angle will make facial features appear far more interesting and more defined; Reese Witherspoon is a regular devotee of this style.

One final thing…

With all this in mind, please don’t let me put you off going for that style you’ve really craved. Sometimes the most stunning hairstyles have been the ones that break the rules. Don’t be afraid to experiment a little… after all hair does grow out again!

So what’s the deal with sulfate free shampoo and why should you be using it? To answer that question, you first have to understand what sulfates are and why they are used in shampoo. Sulfates, such as Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate (ALS), Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS), and Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES), are cleaning ingredients that are commonly used in commercial cleaning products, such as dish soap and laundry soap. Oh yeah, and they’re also used in degreasers like mechanics use to clean their hands.

Sulfates are also used in many personal care products, such as shampoo, body wash, and even toothpaste. They break the tension of the water, which helps to make the water wetter and spread out more easily. Sulfates are used as cleaning ingredients because of their ability to clean well, plus they’re cheap.

When you use shampoo and you get that rich lather going, that’s the work of sulfates. Is it really necessary to have all that lather to clean your hair? No, not really. Over time, advertising companies have conditioned us to believe that without all that lather, we won’t have clean hair. The truth is, there are other ingredients that can be used in shampoo that are gentler and will clean just as well; they just won’t produce the big lathering bubbles we’ve been led to believe are necessary to have clean hair. When you use a sulfate free shampoo, you will get more of a creamy lather rather than tons of bubbles. Don’t worry, your hair will still be clean.

Why You Should Use Sulfate Free Shampoo

Sulfates are very strong cleansing agents and they can be very irritating to the skin and scalp, especially for people with sensitive skin and eczema. They can also cause damage to exposed hair follicles, which can weaken the structure of the hair and also cause diminished hair growth.

Sulfates cause color treated hair to fade faster. Let’s face, if you’re going to color your hair, you want the color to last as long as possible. Not only due to the expense factor, but also because the more your color, the more you damage your hair.

Got dandruff? Using shampoos with sulfates is only going to make it worse. Along with be irritating, sulfates can also cause dry skin and your scalp is skin, which flakes when it gets dry. The drier it gets, the more it flakes.

It just doesn’t make sense to use such a strong cleanser or your hair and skin when there are other ingredients that are gentler and can do the job just as well. So why do manufacturers uses sulfates in shampoo and other personal care products? Because they’re inexpensive. That and they produce the lather and suds we all think we need to have clean hair.

Given the strength of these cleansers and the damage they can do to your hair and scalp, maybe it’s time to switch to sulfate free shampoo.

Sulfate Free Shampoo List

We’ve compiled a sulfate free shampoo list to get you started. The list is not an exhaustive list of all the sulfate free shampoo on the market, but there are quite a few there. Because there are so many, we’ve created a separate page for them. You can find our Sulfate Free Shampoo List Here.

If you can’t find any of the shampoos locally, Amazon has Sulfate Free Shampoo listed for sale on their website.

Ensuring proper diagnosis and medicinal therapy for your child

The U.S. National Library of Medicine qualifies attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, or ADHD, as a behavioral problem that is particularly common in approximately 5% of school-aged children. Oftentimes, non-stimulant Canadian drugs, like Strattera, are purchased at reduced costs from online pharmacies once an ADHD diagnosis has been made.

ADHD is more commonly found in boys and it often shows itself with the following 3 behavioral groupings:

1. Inattentiveness

Lacks attention to detail

Easily distracted from tasks or play

Has trouble listening

Often fails to follow through–finish schoolwork, chores or other responsibilities

Finds organization very difficult

Gets frustrated with task that requires a lot of concentration

Often forgetful and loses track of things easily—school work, time, toys, etc.

Has problems concentrating and finishing tasks

2. Hyperactivity

Overactive or has trouble sitting still

Is rambunctious in inappropriate settings

Difficulty staying quiet or playing alone

Extremely talkative

3. Impulsive behavior

Has difficulty waiting their turn

Interrupts others constantly

Acts without thinking

Easily distracted

ADHD can encompass all 3 groupings—inattentiveness, hyperactivity and impulsive behavior in some children—while other children might demonstrate only one or two of the behavioral groupings.

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) trouble arises when children are incorrectly slapped with an ADHD label or undiagnosed altogether. Before an ADHD diagnosis is made, the child should be evaluated by a doctor for the following:

Children have displayed a minimum of 6 inattentiveness symptoms or 6 hyperactivity/impulsive behavior symptoms for the past 6 months

Symptoms should not be caused by another issue—for example, dyslexia, depression, abuse, etc.

Symptoms are causing difficulties for the child in various settings, for example at home, daycare, school, in social situations, etc.

A doctor’s ADHD diagnosis will be supported by parent and teacher questionnaires, a psychological evaluation of the child and his or her family as well as a thorough examination of the child’s diet and developmental health.

Treating ADHD

Treating a child with ADHD must be a partnership between the child’s doctor, family and school. Every ADHD therapy plan is different, but it might include a combination of prescription medication and behavior therapy as well as natural remedies for ADHD.

Common ADHD prescription medications include:

Strattera: This non-stimulant drug has a few common side effects—such as excessive sleepiness, appetite loss or problems going to sleep at night. For this reason, Strattera should either be taken in the evening (for sleepy children) or parents can split the dose, giving half in the morning and half in the evening to ward off insomnia.

Concerta: This long acting form of Ritalin lasts for up to 12-hours, however many parents complain that it doesn’t work very well in the morning hours. To remedy this, doctors suggest giving half the dose in the morning and the other half later in the day

Adderall XR: The major complaint with this 12 hour-acting ADHD medication is that it wears off too soon before bedtime. Other side effects include weight loss, and aggressiveness and moodiness. Again, splitting the dosage may be a remedy.

The likelihood of your child experiencing side effects from ADHD medication is very high. This is why regular check-ups with their doctor are vital to ensure to monitor the results, adjust the dosage and side effects of the medication. Side effects are also the reason why many parents decide to opt for all-natural ADHD treatments or combine them with behavioral therapy and medication.

Common ADHD alternative therapies include:

Change in diet: Although there is no evidence that cutting sugar and food additives out of your child’s diet will help the symptoms of ADHD, many parents choose to do so as a more natural diet may help general concentration and ease headaches.

Vitamins: Many troubles with behavior stem from a vitamin or mineral deficiency. Supplementing with iron, magnesium or zinc may help by consult with your child’s doctor first.

Essential fatty acids: They are called “smart drugs” for a reason—essential fatty acids found in fish oil and primrose oil have been known to increase concentration.

Candace Klein changes her Facebook status, like, a lot. The East Brunswick, New Jersey, teen says her mother has already been warning her about using a phone while driving. “I don’t even have my learner’s permit yet!,” she laughs.

“I make sure I don’t use the phone when she’s in the car,” says her mother Bonnie. “I want to set a good example for my daughter.”

Experts say it’s important to talk to teenagers about appropriate boundaries for cell phone use, particularly as they approach driving age. In 2007, the AAA reported that cell phone use while behind the wheel caused 21 percent of deadly motor vehicle accidents involving teenagers 16 to 19 years old. The AAA expects a 4 percent annual increase. Cell phone use in cars by teens is a growth industry.

The statistics tell the story: 87 percent of teenagers believe that texting while driving is dangerous; and 80 percent of teen girls and 58 percent of teen boys have admitted they’ve texted while driving.

Parents arguably have a new ally in the battle to curb teen texting while driving: technology. Cars equipped with high-definition screens led the innovations in the Las Vegas Consumer Electronics Show last year. The new screens can read tweets aloud, so you don’t have to look at your phone. They can also upload photos and videos and browse the Internet. But do these infotainment systems provide a safe portal to the Internet? Though they come equipped with voice controls and even block Internet use while a car is in motion, teens pose a particular threat.

Insurance companies know that teenagers aren’t just the most dangerous drivers; they are also the most distractible. Experts worry that tech-savvy teens will find a way to override even the most sophisticated safety measures.

“It’s going to be a tall order for a high school student to keep his eyes on the road when a 3-D screen flashes Katy Perry while he’s steering,” says Colorado personal injury attorney Daniel R. Rosen. “I fear the almighty dollar is trumping teen safety — profit over people,” he adds.

Some wonder why teenagers need Internet access in a car at all. Do the dangers outweigh the benefits? The stats sure seem to indicate they do.

“Even if Candace has an emergency while driving, I want her to pull over to the side of the road before using her phone,” Mrs. Klein says, shaking her head.

We save and use all the coupons that come from stores like JCPenney, Bath & Body Works and other retailers. If we’re planning a trip to the mall and we don’t have any coupons on hand, we check online to see if any of the couponing websites have current coupons or deals for the stores we plan to visit. We save quite a bit of money doing this.

With the economy the way it is and the holidays just around the corner, we know people are looking to save money any way they can. So, we’ve decided to add a couponing category here at Her Zine. Plus, you’ll notice that a lot of our advertisements on the website are geared toward helping people find coupons and good deals on various products.

To get you started you can check out our printable coupons page:

Given the current state of the economy, it’s no wonder people are looking for ways to celebrate Christmas on a budget this year. The good news is, there are ways you can enjoy the holidays and still stay within your budget. It does, however, take a bit of planning on your part and a commitment to stay within the budget you set. Here are a few Christmas ideas to help you celebrate on a budget.

Make a List of Typical Christmas Expenses

Some of the typical Christmas expenses you may incur over the holidays include the following:

New Christmas outfits for your children

 Christmas cards and stamps

 Christmas decorations

 Christmas tree

Travel expenses if you plan to travel for Christmas

Christmas cookies and other goodies if you bake

Christmas dinner and meals for the holidays

By making a list of the things you usually spend money on around the holidays, you can get a better handle on what you will need and how much it will all cost. You can also use this list to start buying things a little at a time rather than all at once, which can be an overwhelming cost.

If you plan to bake or cook for the holidays, start buying nonperishable items ahead of time when they are on sale. Canned goods and boxed items can be stored in your pantry and it’s much easier on your budget when you buy a few things here and there rather than getting them all at once in one shopping trip. Keep an eye on the flyers local supermarkets publish each week and check for coupons online or in your Sunday paper. Using coupons when items are on sale will double your savings.

Christmas Presents

Obviously, one of the biggest expenses during the holiday is Christmas presents. The holidays are a time of giving and everyone loves to give gifts, but giving Christmas presents to everyone can really blow your budget.

Make sure you decide in advance how much you can afford to spend on everyone on your list and stick to your budget. It’s very easy to buy things on impulse during the holidays, so you will have to keep yourself in check and make sure you don’t go over the predetermined amounts you have set for gifts.

Whether you have a large family or not, one of the best ways to save during the holidays is to forego gifts for the adults and just buy for the children. Or, do a Secret Santa where each adult draws one name from a hat buys a gift only for one person. Be sure to put a limit on the cost of the gift so no one goes overboard.

All kids have a Christmas wish list and when it comes to Christmas presents for the kids, parents can exchange wish lists to get a better idea of what to buy for each child. By doing this, you will be spending money on something the child really wants rather than wasting money on something they will never use. If you have a large family with a lot of children and you can’t afford to buy gifts for all of them, the kids can do a Secret Santa as well. Each of the children can draw a name and you can help them choose a gift working from the child’s wish list.

If you plan to give gifts to friends and neighbors, homemade Christmas gifts are less expensive than buying gifts. If you bake, Christmas cookies or other holiday baked goods make perfect gifts. Christmas crafts are another great idea and by making gifts, you can add your own personal touch and give a truly unique gift. Let the kids get involved with the Christmas crafts too so they can make something special for their teachers.

Check The Black Friday Ads

Every year retailers publish Black Friday ads listing their sales, so it’s worth it to look through each of the ads and compare prices on the gifts you intend to buy. By doing a price comparison, you can make sure you get the best deal. Even if you only save a few dollars on each item, those dollars can add up to big savings in the end.

Don’t forget to compare prices online too. Internet shopping websites often run Cyber Monday ads with their Christmas deals and again, it’s worth it to compare prices to find the best deals. Many online shopping sites also have coupons and free shipping deals, so plan ahead of time and get on their mailing lists to receive savings alerts.

Have Fun Without Spending Money

Many communities host events during the holidays that are free, such as caroling and tree lighting ceremonies. Schools also hold holiday concerts that can be a lot of fun for the whole family Or, you could simply pack the kids in the car and find one of those neighborhoods that decorate to nines, and enjoy the lights. The best way to find out what’s happening locally is to check community bulletin boards or even search online for holiday events in your area.

Busy schedules and limited budgets can often cause stress during the holidays. Setting aside time with the family to enjoy a local holiday event that is free can go a long way in helping to reduce stress. And remember, it’s the small things you do as a family during the holidays that create memories that will last a lifetime.

Vitamins are essential to a person’s well-being as your body is made up of trillions of cells that require nutrients such as vitamins to function properly.

Vitamin D is an especially important as it enables the body to absorb calcium properly. Along with vitamin D, calcium helps keep bones strong and healthy which is especially important for children whose bones are still growing. A lack of vitamin D is actually very common so let’s take a look at vitamin D deficiency symptoms. Mild deficiency symptoms can include general aches and pains but more severe deficiency symptoms are things such as rickets and osteomalacia. Certain people are more prone to low vitamin D levels such as pregnant women, children under 5, people over 65 and people with certain liver or kidney diseases.

Of course prevention is better than cure so let’s look at some of the reasons why people have low levels of vitamin D and how you can prevent them. The number one reason for vitamin D deficiency is lack of sunlight. 90% of the vitamin of our vitamin D is made in our own bodies with the aid of sunlight. Of course it stands to reason that if lack of sunlight is the reason for low vitamin D levels then you should get out in the sun more however you do not want to go too far in the other direction because it is well documented that over exposure to the sun greatly increases the risk of skin cancer. Around 2-3 exposures per week in the summer months will suffice and provide your body with enough vitamin D for the rest of the year.

Vitamin D can also be increased though other means such as supplements and certain foods that contain it. Vitamin D dosage when it comes to supplements will vary depending on how severely the individual is lacking. Some foods that contain vitamin D include – fish such as sardines, pilchards, herrings; egg yolk and fortified foods such as margarine and cereals. A deficiency of vitamin D is usually diagnosed with a simple blood test. It is also possible to treat the deficiency via injection. This lasts for about 6 months and is a very quick and easy treatment. This is usually for people who don’t like taking medicine orally and would not take their tablets.

It is easy to overlook deficiency of this vital vitamin as a cause of medical symptoms but regular visits to the doctor will make sure you’re aware of your vitamin D levels. Luckily low levels of vitamin D are very easy to diagnose and treat so there is no need to suffer for extended periods of time.

Jack Hann explores the various health benefits of vitamins, minerals, and many other health supplements. Learn more about vitamin d dosage, vitamin D side effects or about other subjects related to health supplements by visiting his website.
